The fourth, and final, screen teaming of Bogart and Bacall is another winner. With a cast that includes Edward G. Robinson (as gangster Johnny Rocco”), Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Gomez, and Claire Trevor (who won an Academy Award for her heart-breaking performance as Roccos girlfriend), and superb direction by long-time Bogart crony, John Huston, this is a tense thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The suspenseful and claustrophobic terror mounts as Robinson (at his most menacing) and his gang hold the inhabitants of a small hotel hostage while a major hurricane buffets the coast and the bad guys plan their escape. This is the last time that Bogart and Robinson (both veterans of countless Warner Brothers crime films) faced off against one another, and is without a doubt their finest pairing. Although this was their last time on screen together, Bogart and Bacall remained happily married (and the center of Hollywoods original Rat Pack) for the rest of Bogarts life. Bacall continues to be a beautiful, sassy lady to this day.(Bill Roth)
