Nov 21 – 27

Our next feature, Trouble the Water, a deeply personal documentary about Hurricane Katrina, starts tomorrow, Friday, at 7:30pm. Religulous, Bill Maher's documentary about faith starts Friday, Nov 28.

The Duchess has its last screening tonight (Thursday) at 7:30pm. Keira Knightley's emotionally potent performance is quite good, and perfectly offsets Ralph Fiennes' reticent Duke of Devonshire.

Our Classics on Sundays series continues with The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946), one of Barbara Stanwyck's lesser known films. And don't forget, next Sunday, (Nov 30) we're screening one of my all time favorite films, Double Indemnity (1944), a noir zinger!

The Children's Series continues this Saturday at 2pm with a fantastic film from the creative team behind Wallace & Grommit, Chicken Run (2000). Recommended for ages 6 and up. After the film, if you find yourself needing another Aardman fix, put season one of their hilarious, insightful take on human (and animal) nature, Creature Comforts, on your netflix queue.

One more note about kids' films — we're very happy to host the Philadelphia area premiere of The Girl Who Leapt through Time during the week of Thanksgiving. We've got four screenings of this terrific anime film from 2006 on the schedule starting on Monday, Nov 24 at 8:30pm. It's best for ages 10 and up. More info is on our website.

Finally, it's annual appeal time in the non-profit world and we need your support! Our annual fund is a way for us to present high quality arts programming and keep it affordable. The goal this year is $65,000. All of our board members have given generously to this campaign already. We now need to enlist the support of all our members as well as our friends. The Colonial has not only enhanced arts programming in our communities but it has also helped to make downtown Phoenixville a destination for many people to relax and enjoy themselves. Join us in this effort to make the Colonial Theatre the center for cultural and civic activity in our region.

Please take a moment to consider a tax-deductible gift to this gem and be as generous as you can. Your contribution will ensure the sustained momentum of the Colonial and provide much needed support for our exciting programs. Thanks for your support and we'll see you at the theatre!
