Spend a Week at the Colonial: Mar 12 – 18

broken-embraces

Good afternoon Colonial Fans!

A Single Man has its last screening tonight (Thursday) at 7:30PM. Broken Embraces, directed by Pedro Almodovar and starring Penelope Cruz, starts tomorrow (Friday) at 7:30. Crazy Heart starts on Mar 26.

FFFN Alert: We’re showing the 35mm print of Zombie tomorrow night at 10:10PM. Tom Whalen (the artist who designs our FFFN posters) won’t be here, but we will still have his Aliens (just a few left) and Zombie posters for sale for $10 each. Don’t forget we also have very cool, glow-in-the-dark FFFN t-shirts designed by Neo-Pangea for sale for only $15.

Our Young Audiences show for this Saturday is a collection of Looney Tunes cartoons featuring Foghorn Leghorn and friends, and the work of Chuck Jones. The list of cartoons is here. Show time is 2PM and tickets are $4. We had a pretty big turnout when we showed Looney Tunes last year, so you may want to buy your tickets in advance online, or come a little early to the show.

Our classic film this Sunday is one of the first classic films I remember seeing as a kid with my Dad, The Quiet Man starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara. I plan on bringing my daughter with me, although she’s a bit of a reluctant classic film viewer. (I must bend her to my will!) The film is appropriate for ages 8+.

I’ve added all of our kids and classic films through June to the website, so check it out when you have some time. There are some great films coming up!

Finally, I want to express our big, HUGE thanks to all the members who joined in February and helped us surpass our goal of signing up 100 members by March 1. Our members came out in high style for the Oscar party on Sunday night, and by the looks of things, everyone had a great time. I think the highlight of the evening was when The Blob and the Colonial marquee showed up (twice!) in the horror film montage during the Oscar ceremony. Our audience gave a collective, enthusiastic cheer. It was a great, spontaneous moment! Here’s the montage on YouTube, although it’s poor quality. The Blob shows up at about 4:04 and 4:49.

Thanks for your support and we’ll see you at the theatre!
