A lot of you have been asking “What is TED?” Who is TED? Does it have to do with Ted The Fiddler? We’ve answered your questions by explaining that TED is not a person but an acronym: Technology, Entertainment, Design, and the name of an annual conference around those subjects, featuring speakers with “ideas worth spreading.” Now here’s the cool news: the TED conference is coming to The Colonial Theatre. Well, sort of. On Wednesday, March 2, we will be simulcasting the conference free (that’s F-R-E-E!) from 11:30AM-9:45PM. So if you want to learn about TED, here’s your chance! This year’s speakers include scientists, designers, musicians and filmmakers such as Julie Taymor, Morgan Spurlock and Bill Gates. Join us Wednesday!
While you’re at it, keep in mind tickets for TEDxPhoenixville (our own independently organized TED event), are already on sale. It will take place Saturday, Sep 24 and promises to be another great event! You can buy tickets by clicking here.
Tomorrow we start Black Swan, nominated for five Oscars! Tonight is the last night to see Oscar Nominated Live Action Shorts. Please note a few schedule changes this week: Our usual Wednesday 2:00 matinee will be moved to Thursday at 2:00 due to the TED2011 simulcast and there will be no feature film screening Sunday night due to the Oscar Party.
If you’re coming to see Black Swan tomorrow night, be sure to stop by the membership table in the lobby and say hello! If you haven’t had a chance to renew or begin a membership with us, we’ll walk you through it.
Our Saturday Children’s movie is a newly restored print of M. Hulot’s Holiday. Sunday come see the next film in our Classic series, “The Dark Side of Showbiz,” Sweet Smell of Success, with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis.
Thanks for your support and we’ll see you at the theatre!
