Our new feature film this week is Mistress America. The life of a lonely college freshman (Lola Kirke) is turned upside down by her impetuous, adventurous soon-to-be stepsister (Greta Gerwig). Tonight is your last chance to see The End of the Tour at 7:30.
Following our feature tomorrow night, stay for special Cult Cinema screening of Akira. It is a story of a secret military project that endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psionic psychopath that only two kids and a group of psionics can stop. Akira is an astonishingly influential film, easily as much so as cinema’s touchstones Citizen Kane and Pulp Fiction. Its impact is made more difficult to judge, though, given that it was made more than sixteen years ago, and didn’t make an initial impact outside of Japan. Oddly, this made its influence even more profound, benefiting from ‘word of mouth’ and the influx of cheap VHS at the end of the Eighties. Don’t miss it!
Join us this Sunday at 12:30 for an exclusive tour of the theatre and a visit to preview 225 Bridge St. Please RSVP by 5PM Thursday by calling 610-917-1228, giving us the names of all attending. Starting in October, 2015 tours will be on the first and third Sundays of the month only.
Thanks for your support and we’ll see you at the theatre!
