Commemorating both the 5oth anniversary of this epic romantic film and the untimely recent passing of its charismatic star, Omar Sharif, we are proud to present Doctor Zhivago as it should be seen, on the Colonial’s big screen. Directed by the estimable Sir David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on The River Kwai) from the classic novel by Boris Pasternak, this is a sweeping yet intimate story of a man torn between two loves amidst the turbulence of the Russian Revolution. Sharif, as the poet/doctor title character, breathes life into this sprawling epic, supported by a cast that includes such notables as: Alec Guinness, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Ralph Richardson and Tom Courtenay. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, Zhivago went on to receive well deserved Oscars for its sumptuous musical score (Maurice Jarre) as well as for the screenplay (Robert Bolt), cinematography (Freddie Young), art direction, and costume design. Come see this stunningly beautiful epic film and be swept away. (Bill Roth)
