If you loved Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca, Notorious, and/or For Whom The Bell Tolls, then you are in for quite a treat with Gaslight, for which she received her first Best Actress Academy Award. In this Victorian thriller, Ingrid pulls out all the stops, as a young bride who is slowly being driven mad by her smooth and cunning husband, the ever-charming Charles Boyer. A classic tale of mounting terror and dread, Gaslight features a brilliant cast, including Joseph Cotton, Dame May Whitty, and a very young Angela Lansbury (Oscar-nominated for this, her first film role, playing a flirtatious and devious maid.) So, if you like your mysteries tinged with gothic terror and filled with great acting, then you will definitely take a shine to Gaslight. (Bill Roth)
