“Heavy on the laughter as well as the sentiment, Mrs. Doubtfire is an appealing comedy in spite of it’s sprinkling of “Afterschool Special” schmaltz. Featuring a very funny performance by Robin Williams, this entertaining, high-concept comedy casts Williams as a recently divorced actor. Losing a custody battle over his three children, Williams takes advantage of ex-wife Sally Field’s search for a housekeeper and impersonates a sixty-ish British nanny. Often recalling Tootsie, Mrs. Doubtfire isn’t on that film’s level, but it does firmly stand on its own two orthopedic pumps.” (TLA Film & VIdeo Guide)
