Organist Rudy Lucente will play the theatre organ from 6:30 – 7PM before the 7PM screening on Thu, May 18. Considered by many to be the greatest movie musical ever made, this is your chance to determine whether such a grand appellation is justified. One thing that can be said for it, the cast of Gene Kelly, Cyd Charisse, Donald O’Connor, and a very young Debbie Reynolds provides one of the most satisfying musical shows you’ll ever see. The plot, about the confusion that reigned when movies first converted from silence to sound, is secondary to the wonderful Adolph Green/Betty Comden song and dance routines, including “Make ‘Em Laugh,” “Good Mornin’,” “The Broadway Ballet,” “Moses Supposes,” and, of course, Kelly’s ultimate rendition of the title tune. As the London Radio Times has said, “Never in the whole history of American cinema has such a collection of talents come together at the peak of their abilities to generate such an enjoyable and clever movie.” And, don’t miss Jean Hagan’s hilarious turn as the egotistical, scheming, moronic movie star with a voice that could curdle milk. This is truly a musical classic that the whole family will enjoy! (Bill Roth)
The screening on Wed, May 17 at 1:30PM is FREE in celebration of the opening of our two new theatres and our new schedule of matinees every day!
