Profane, profound and hilarious, Slap Shot scores a comedy hat-trick! When the player/coach (Paul Newman) of a struggling minor league hockey team learns that its current season will be its last, he scrambles to find a solution. Help arrives in the form of his new players the Hanson Brothers – a trio of siblings more concerned with brawling than winning. Realizing that the crowd wants to see fights more than scores, the coach transforms the team into a pack of bruisers that sells tickets and fills stadiums. Directed by George Roy Hill (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) and written by Nancy Dowd (North Dallas Forty, Coming Home), this outrageous and celebrated comedy was inspired by the antics of the Johnstown Jets of Johnstown, PA (where most of the movie was filmed).
