Delayed by an avalanche, two passengers aboard a London-bound train, young Iris (Margaret Lockwood) and elderly Miss Froy (Dame May Whitty), strike up a friendship. When the trip resumes Iris realizes that Miss Froy has gone missing. Although the other passengers don’t recall seeing the missing woman, Iris tries to uncover the truth with the help of a musician (Michael Redgrave). Soon sparks and bullets fly as the lovebirds begin to unravel the mystery. One of Hitchcock’s most lighthearted and entertaining mysteries, The Lady Vanishes also features the scene-stealing work of Naunton Wayne and Basil Radford as a pair of cricket-obsessed Englishmen.
