Join us for a special screening of The Mustang to benefit the Gateway HorseWorks!
Roman Coleman (Matthias Schoenaerts), a convict in a rural Nevada prison who struggles to escape his violent past, is required to participate in an “outdoor maintenance” program as part of his state-mandated social rehabilitation. Spotted by a no-nonsense veteran trainer (Academy Award winner Bruce Dern) and helped by an outgoing fellow inmate and trick rider (Jason Mitchell), Roman is accepted into the selective wild horse training section of the program. There, he rediscovers his own humanity in gentling an especially unbreakable mustang. Executive produced by Robert Redford.
After the screening, please stay for a conversation with Thomas Smittle, costar of The Mustang, and learn about his experience in the wild horse program depicted in the film. In addition to being an actor, Thomas is a clinician and wild horse advocate who envisions developing horse programs in all correctional facilities nationwide to support reentry.
All proceeds from this screening will benefit Gateway HorseWorks’ program, Stable Pathways, a trauma-informed equine-assisted psychotherapy program for men and women in pre-release from prison in Chester County to support reentry.
