As a nonprofit, Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT) relies on members and donors to ensure the Colonial Theatre is operational each year. Tickets and concession revenues only contribute a portion of what is needed to maintain and restore the historic Colonial and deliver film and live programming.
Gifts in various forms (cash, money order, recurring, gift of stock) are appreciated and can be made in any amount using the links below. Budget-friendly, recurring contributions (monthly, quarterly, etc) can be initiated using the form below.

Whether your attraction to the Colonial Theatre originates from a love of great film and performance, historic spaces and places, the preservation of Phoenixville and Chester County landmarks or an interest in arts and culture, there are many ways to contribute.
Donate to the Colonial Theatre
In May 2017, the Colonial completed and opened its new wing containing two brand new theatres for film, additional bathrooms and amenities including a 30' concession offering wine and beer, and a rental suite with rooftop views and an adjacent rooftop garden. The $8M capital campaign was made possible through the generosity of donors who have supported the project with gifts ranging from $5 to $1 million dollars and through financing provided by Malvern Federal Bank & Trust. Carnevale Eustis Architects designed the new wing with input from Cosler Theatre Design and Caldwell, Heckles & Egan Construction Inc managed the project.
Naming opportunities and seat sponsorships are still available within the new wing. Contributors who have made gifts of $10,000 and greater are recognized with permanent signage in the new wing. Multi-year pledges can be made for gifts of $5,000 or greater. The Colonial Theatre accepts gifts of stock and appreciated securities. Tax-deductible, annual fund gifts literally light our marquee, keep the film projectors humming and the popcorn poppers popping! General operating support is needed now more than ever because operational costs have increased due to our recent building expansion.

Sponsoring a theatre seat is a fabulous way to memorialize a loved one, pay tribute to a film-loving friend or give a unique and memorable gift. Seat sponsorships currently support the Bank on the Arts building expansion campaign and are available in each of the two new theatres being constructed in the Colonial's new wing (opening this May 2017).
Donors who sponsor a seat in either of the two new theatres pictured below (actual colors and finishes) will help us meet our campaign fundraising goal. Put your name on one of 65 plush red velvet seats in the Berry Theatre for $2,000 per seat or one of 174 deluxe, telescoping turquoise seats in the White Rabbit Theatre for $2,500 per seat. Each seat will bear an engraved plaque commemorating your gift with a special message. Seat sponsorships can be made in honor or in memory of a loved one. Please note that Bank on the Arts seat sponsorships do not guarantee a patron's ability to sit in any seat for any or every performance or film.

When forward-thinking Phoenixvillian Harry Brownback bought the buildings that would become the Colonial Theatre in 1902, there was no way of knowing what would become of his modest dream. Remarkably, his small, $30,000 investment in the building now owned by the nonprofit Association for the Colonial Theatre has been protected for 114 years and counting through the energy and generosity of many friends and donors.
Planned gifts transmit legacies and positively impact future generations. By considering the Colonial Theatre in your gift planning or will, you can ensure that another century of film and performance has a venue for expression and that this historic venue persists, come what may. Adding a simple bequest to your will is one way to make a planned gift to the Colonial Theatre today.

Individuals who honor the Colonial with a bequest or other planned gift form the Medallion Society. There are no dues or fees associated with membership in this planned giving society. Planned gifts to the Colonial Theatre can have a profound impact on our work today and tomorrow and depending on the type of gift, can help you to achieve your financial and charitable goals. You are eligible for membership in the Medallion Society if you have named Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT) as a beneficiary of your:
- Will or trust
- IRA or other retirement plan
- Life income or other planned gift (charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, or remainder interest in a personal residence)
Members will be listed in the annual report and acknowledged in all donor recognition materials produced by the Colonial Theatre, in perpetuity. You will also be invited to join your fellow members at special events and exclusive Medallion Society events.
