About
In conjunction with our screening of Come and See, Film Programming Manager Dan Santelli will host a 45-minute, spoiler-free pre-screening seminar on this extraordinary, confrontational work of Soviet cinema.
One of the most harrowing and formally audacious anti-war films ever made, Elem Klimov’s Come and See plunges viewers into the Nazi occupation of Belarus through the increasingly traumatized perspective of a teenage partisan. Drawing on clips, historical context, and close analysis, Dan will explore Klimov’s extraordinary command of cinematic technique to conjure a uniquely surreal and horrifying vision of war while situating the film within its varied historical, cultural, and cinematic contexts.
Be sure to stick around after the movie for a post-screening discussion.
