Black horror is experiencing a cultural renaissance, and what better time to celebrate the genre than this Halloween season? Join us for a weekend of chills and thrills accompanying the People’s Light production of Bonez! Spirited celebrations, ponderous podcasts, and terrifying movies abound.

Join us before the Bonez performance on Friday the 13th. Concessions will be open early, with snacks and drinks available for purchase. Costumes are welcome.

Black Women Are Scary: Live Podcast Recording

On Saturday, join Philadelphia’s Wi-Moto Nyoka, acclaimed horror and sci-writer in the live recording of her podcast Black Women Are Scary. This radio-dramatic podcast celebrates and produces short horror stories by BIPOC authors.

Candyman (1992) Screening

To close out our spooky weekend, come see the all-time Horror classic Candyman (1992). Based on Clive Barker’s short story “The Forbidden”, the film follows a Chicago graduate student completing a thesis on urban legends and folklore, which leads her to the legend of the Candyman, the ghost of an African-American artist and the son of a slave who was murdered in the late 19th century for his relationship with the daughter of a wealthy white man.
