About

Films at First Sight is a podcast that explores cinema, both new and old, through the lens of a first-time viewer. With such a wonderful setting as the Colonial Theatre, we have a special opportunity to share that experience with a larger audience once again! So, come early for a FREE raffle giveaway, the fine folks from MovieJawn slinging ‘zines in the lobby, and 10 minutes AFTER the film, join us upstairs in the Garden Suite for a LIVE podcast recording. And of course, we have some very special guests lined up! Rosalie Kicks and Benjamin Leonard from MovieJawn will climb about the ship and help us break down all the sweaty swordplay as we ponder life and romance on the high seas. Will Errol Flynn steal our hearts? Or will Basil Rathbone make us rue the day we set sights on the silver screen horizon? Join us to find out!

“Captain Blood didn’t just propel Errol Flynn to stardom but the swashbuckler helped bring back the period costume adventures that had been missing in action since the transition to sound.” – Solyz at the Movies

In England in the 1600s, Dr. Peter Blood (Errol Flynn) treats the wounds of a man who had been injured in a rebellion against King James II, for which he is convicted of treason and sold into slavery in the Caribbean colony of Port Royal, Jamaica. Despite the kindnesses of his new owner, Arabella Bishop (Olivia de Havilland), Blood and his fellow slaves escape to begin a life of high-seas piracy. But when Captain Blood crosses paths with Arabella again years later, he remembers her compassion.
