Nosferatu (1922) with Live Theatre Organ Accompaniment
TOSDV PresentsAbout
In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summons Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen (Greta Schroeder). After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock (Alexander Granach), prepares for his master to arrive at his new home.

THE ORGANIST
Glenn Hough has been playing the organ for over fifty years, starting in Northern New Jersey on the Rahway and BoundBrook instruments. After moving to Lancaster County he served at several churches and accompanied silent flicks at the Marietta Theater for approximately ten years. He currently provides walk-in music at the Capitol Theatre in York PA for select weekend films.
He has provided Dickinson TOS open house music, a showcase concert for members of the Susquehanna Valley TOS, two accompaniments of “King of Kings” at the Colonial Theatre and a TOSDV Holiday Concert with pianist Phyllis Sands and vocalist Maria Damore. One of the area’s silent film affectionados complimented Glenn as having provided the best accompaniment for “King of Kings” that he has ever heard. I second that in that his playing ‘emotionally moved me’ even more so than DeMille’s ‘top of his game’ cinematography. Glenn’s success is greatly enhanced by having his own in house three manual pipe organ on which to hone the skill set.
