In the third installment of the Indiana Jones saga, director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas steer their globe-trotting adventurer back toward the serial thrills that made the series a sensation. In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) embarks on a race to locate the legendary Holy Grail, the sacred relic said to grant eternal life, before it falls into Nazi hands. The quest takes Indy from the deserts of the American West to the catacombs of Venice and the deserts of the Middle East, pursued by rival treasure hunters and shadowy agents of the Third Reich. The film’s most distinctive twist arrives in the form of Indy’s father, the absent-minded Grail scholar Dr. Henry Jones Sr. (Sean Connery), whose uneasy partnership with his son transforms the series’ familiar chain of chases, traps, and cliffhangers into a surprisingly personal adventure about legacy, obsession, and the awkward bond between fathers and sons.

About
“Though it cannot regain the brash originality of Raiders of the Lost Ark, in its own way The Last Crusade is nearly as good, matching its audience’s wildest hopes…of the three Jones films, The Last Crusade may well become the sentimental favorite, the Indiana to end them all.” — Caryn James, The New York Times
