    SYNOPSIS

    Steven Spielberg’s trendsetting classic resurrects the breathless spirit of Hollywood’s Saturday matinee serials, sending whip-cracking archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) on a globe-spanning quest to locate the biblical Ark of the Covenant before it falls into Nazi hands. From booby-trapped jungle temples and Nepalese taverns to Egyptian deserts and submarine pens, Spielberg and producer George Lucas assemble a relentless chain of cliffhangers involving snakes, secret maps, truck chases, fistfights, and supernatural forces. Along the way Indy reunites with the fiercely independent Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), while rival archaeologists and Nazi agents close in on the same legendary relic. The result is a high-velocity adventure that treats pulp spectacle as both homage and propulsion, piling one peril on top of another with infectious momentum.
