That thing we did!
Thanks to the generosity of a group of donors, The Colonial Theatre received philanthropic support to fund this 35mm program, ensuring that this heartwarming musical comedy comes to our 1903 Theatre in its original 35mm format. Click here to view the details from that successful fundraising campaign. The Playtone Company, Tom Hanks’ appropriately named production company, heard about our campaign and matched our $1,500 donation – bringing our total to $3,000, thanks Mr. White!
The Playtone Company also donated two movie soundtracks on special edition vinyl – not for sale anywhere! We will be raffling these off at the screening, attend to enter the drawing!
ABOUT THE FILM
That Thing You Do! (1996), written and directed by Tom Hanks, chronicles the meteoric rise of The Wonders, a fictional pop band from Erie, Pennsylvania. With your generous support, The Colonial Theatre is excited to bring this hilarious, heartwarming film in its original 35mm format to the 1903 Theatre!
“The chief wonder of this rock ‘n’ roll cast is Tom Everett Scott, whose easy charisma, dreamy smile and undersurface intelligence should shoot him up the acting charts like a bullet.” – The Hollywood Reporter
Wily band manager Mr. White (Tom Hanks) helps a small town band achieve big time success when they release a Beatles-style pop song in 1964. Pennsylvania band the “Oneders” become a sensation after their drummer breaks his arm, and is replaced by jazz enthusiast, Guy Patterson (Tom Everett Scott), who injects something a bit different into their music.
