About
“One of my favorite movies of all time.” — Quentin Tarantino
SYNOPSIS
Martial arts legend Jimmy Wang Yu writes, directs, and stars in this gloriously outrageous kung fu extravaganza, a delirious collision of inventive fight choreography, outlandish weaponry, and gleeful absurdity. Reprising his role as the One-Armed Boxer, Wang faces a formidable new adversary in a blind assassin armed with the titular flying guillotine, a deadly contraption capable of decapitating its victims from a distance. Bent on avenging the deaths of his disciples, the ruthless killer pursues his quarry through a succession of increasingly spectacular confrontations, culminating in an unforgettable showdown. Along the way, an eccentric martial arts tournament introduces a colorful assortment of combatants, including a fighter whose arms stretch to impossible lengths. Featuring wildly imaginative action sequences, eccentric sound design, and a propulsive electronic soundtrack (with unlicensed contributions from Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream), this enormously influential cult classic helped shape the aesthetics of subsequent martial arts cinema and video games. An irresistible spectacle of low-budget ingenuity, outrageous violence, and sheer cinematic invention!
