Matt McGinnis’s Movie Riffing Melee: The Devil Bat
Sponsored by ScareprosAbout
Matt McGinnis’s Movie Riffing Melee returns to the Colonial Theatre for a special spook-tacular Halloween event, and this time YOU are the star!
Along the way, randomly-selected audience members will have the chance to riff against each other in a fast-paced, competitive melee to take home the title of “Movie Riffing Royalty.” But don’t worry about coming up with all those zingers right off the dome – we’ll provide the script, you provide the performance! Think you have what it takes?Join Matt McGinnis (Mystery Science Theater 3000) and his wonderful assistant, Roxie, as they present the 1940 Bela Lugosi film, The Devil Bat, in which a mad scientist uses a large bat to kill anyone who wears his custom-made aftershave lotion. Yes, that’s the real story.
Synopsis:
Dr. Paul Carruthers (Bela Lugosi) is frustrated because he thinks his employers, Mary Heath (Suzanne Kaaren) and Henry Morton (Guy Usher), have cheated him out of the company’s profits. He decides to get revenge by altering bats to grow twice their normal size and training them to attack when they smell a perfume of his own making. He mixes the perfume into a lotion, which he offers as a gift to Mary and Henry. When they turn up dead, a newspaper reporter (Dave O’Brien) decides to investigate.
