    William Friedkin’s (The French Connection, The Exorcist) kinetic neo-noir takes the ’80s action thriller to new heights of hyperstylized excess. Federal agent Richard Chance (William Petersen) has a score to settle as he vows to take down a murderous counterfeiter (Willem Dafoe) by any means necessary. Friedkin pushes this white-knuckle tale of corruption and revenge into overdrive with sleek visuals, a synthy New Wave soundtrack by Wang Chung, and one of the most harrowing car chases ever caught on film: a pulse-pounding, against-traffic pursuit down a congested Los Angeles freeway. — Criterion
