About
An alternative to the big game, where three horror films rule the day! In keeping with Horror Bowl’s thematic tradition (as established by John Carpenter’s Apocalypse Trilogy), this year’s mini-marathon honors three horrors from the studio that dropped blood, Hammer Studios! Our halftime spectacular includes a collection of Hammer film trailers, vintage commercials, and the occasional football reference.
The Players

Horror of Dracula

(Terence Fisher, UK, 1958, 1h 22m, NR, 35mm)
On a search for his missing friend Jonathan Harker (John Van Eyssen), vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) is led to Count Dracula’s (Christopher Lee) castle. Upon arriving, Van Helsing finds an undead Harker in Dracula’s crypt and discovers that the count’s next target is Harker’s ailing fiancée, Lucy Holmwood (Carol Marsh). With the help of her brother, Arthur (Michael Gough), Van Helsing struggles to protect Lucy and put an end to Count Dracula’s parasitic reign of terror. This film print is courtesy of Exhumed Films.

Vampire Circus

(Robert Young, UK, 1972, 1h 27m, PG, 35mm)
A circus setting is combined with an unusual vampire story in this Hammer tale. In 1825, a mysterious circus visits a Serbian village cut off from the world by an outbreak of plague, and corpses start being found totally drained of blood. This film print is courtesy of Exhumed Films.

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell

(Terence Fisher, UK, 1974, 1h 33m, R, 35mm)
Is Baron Frankenstein truly dead? That’s precisely what he wants the world to think. He’s had it up to here with a public that doesn’t appreciate the trouble a mad scientist goes through to snatch good body parts. To carry on his work, he holes up in a place where the possibilities are utterly maddening: a home for the criminally insane! A hand here. A brain there … true to form, the Baron (Peter Cushing) keeps his gruesome creation (David Prowse, known for his portrayal of Darth Vader) in stitches in this sixth and final fright fest in Hammer Films’ Frankenstein cycle.
