The film stars Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figures), Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black), Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Corey Hawkins (In the Heights), Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (If Beale Street Could Talk), and Fantasia Barrino, in her major motion picture debut.

Directed by Blitz Bazawule (Black Is King) and produced by Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Scott Sanders, and Quincy Jones. Screenplay by Marcus Gardley, based on the novel by Alice Walker and the musical stage play book by Marsha Norman. Music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. Choreography by Fatima Robinson.
