About

“CRITIC’S PICK: It’s often funny, even if the questions that it raises about truth, reality and knowledge can make it feel like a tragedy — few movies speak as uncannily to the pathos and destabilizing confusions of the present moment.” — Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

SYNOPSIS

One of the year’s most acclaimed and provocative films, You Can See Everything finds Nathan Fielder (The Rehearsal, Nathan for You) and Lance Oppenheim (Some Kind of Heaven, Primetime) venturing into treacherous psychological territory in this audacious documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced Theranos founder convicted of defrauding investors. Invited into the California home Holmes shares with her partner Billy Evans shortly before her imprisonment, Fielder subjects the couple’s assertions of innocence and mutual devotion to his trademark combination of deadpan awkwardness and relentless interrogation. But the filmmaker’s attempts to penetrate Holmes’s carefully guarded psychology gradually complicate his own position, as the distinction between investigation and intrusion becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. Oppenheim’s rigorously composed images and David Bolen’s intimate cinematography lend the domestic encounters an unsettling dramatic intensity, while Fielder’s familiar comic persona assumes darker, more ambiguous dimensions. What emerges is not simply a portrait of a notorious Silicon Valley figure but a provocative examination of trust, self-presentation, and the power dynamics of documentary filmmaking, in which the pursuit of absolute certainty threatens to reveal as much about the investigator as the investigated.
