With World War I afoot, David Armstrong (Richard Arlen) and Jack Powell (Charles “Buddy” Rogers) join the military with an eye toward flying American fighter planes. They leave behind Mary Preston (Clara Bow), a local girl who’s in love with David but committed to Jack. Dispatched to France as newly minted pilots, the men take to the skies in one of the war’s climactic air battles, and as frantic Mary longs for the safe return of both men, one pays the ultimate price for his bravery. Plus a feature with The Boys, of course. This show will be in the beautiful “1903 Theater”. Screens August 10th, 2024.
“Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. This film, in which the bandmates play slapstick versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester (The Knack . . . and How to Get It) and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems—including the title track, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “I Should Have Known Better”, and “If I Fell”, A Hard Day’s Night, which reconceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time”. – The Criterion Collection. Sponsored by The Record Shop and Callahan & Fey. Screens August 11th, 2024.
Three cowboy movie stars from the silent era — Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short) — are fired when one of their movies bombs. In what seems to be a career-saving offer, young Mexican woman Carmen (Patrice Martinez) offers them a high-paying gig in her village. The three jump at the opportunity, expecting to do their typical act, but Carmen believes they are really heroes and asks them to rid her village of bad guy El Guapo (Alfonso Arau). Screens August 11th, 2024.
Nightclub sensation Velma (Catherine Zeta-Jones) murders her philandering husband, and Chicago’s slickest lawyer, Billy Flynn (Richard Gere), is set to defend her. Neither woman will be outdone in their fight against each other and the public for fame and celebrity. Screens August 18th, 2024.
