Blobfest® 2022: The Uninvited is the 23rd annual signature event and commemorates the Colonial’s place in cinematic history as a filming location for the 1958 classic film – and all things sci-fi horror.
I fully admit that when it comes to being scared by movies, I’m a chicken. Okay, I don’t like being scared at all, but when I was a kid, I saw The Blob and, well, it creeped me out so much. But I was a kid so can you blame me? LOL Little did I know that this 1958 film would become a cult classic and every July, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania celebrates the movie with its annual Blobfest. Fans of the movie have flocked to the historic Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, which served as a backdrop for scenes.
Haven’t seen The Blob? Here are some interesting facts:
- It was Steve McQueen’s first feature film role.
- It was released by Paramount Pictures as a double feature with I Married a Monster from Outer Space.
- The Downington Diner still exists!
- There was a Blob 2 movie and it was directed by actor Larry Hagman.
- The trailer for The Blob is seen during the drive-in scene in the 1978 film Grease.

The event will be held from July 8 through July 10, 2022, so get your tickets now. It will include in-person double features, a street festival, a re-enactment of the film’s ‘Run Out’ scene, a costume contest, and an amateur filmmaking competition.
