In July of 2023, Pluto TV was gracious enough to supply the Colonial’s patrons with a weekend of Free Movies. This year they are back at it again. Pluto TV will return on August 3rd and 4th with their “Summer of Cinema.” So what does that mean?

Pluto TV’s “Free Movie Weekend” is part of its “Summer of Cinema” campaign, which brings the service’s signature “free” offering to independent theaters around the country by providing complimentary movie tickets during select weekends all summer.

This year, Pluto TV is thrilled to offer the following films as part of their free movie weekend (follow the film links below for tickets and additional details).

Please give yourself ample time to arrive as Pluto TV will have a few surprises and experiences in our lobby.

This film adaptation of a Roald Dahl work tells the story of Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father (Danny DeVito) and mother (Rhea Perlman). Worse, Agatha Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the evil principal at Matilda’s school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull’s wrath and fight back against her unkind parents. The film only screens on August 3rd.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. They were all banished from their kingdom by the evil Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow). Determined to save their home — not to mention his — Shrek cuts a deal with Farquaad and sets out to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) to be Farquaad’s bride. Rescuing the Princess may be small compared to her deep, dark secret.  The film only screens on August 3rd.

Dispatched to France as newly minted pilots, the men take to the skies in one of the war’s climactic air battles, and as frantic Mary longs for the safe return of both men, one pays the ultimate price for his bravery.  There will be a live theatre organ accompaniment by Brett Miller.
