Leave A Legacy
In 1902, when the Colonial Theatre’s founder, Harry Brownback, lifted the curtain on its stage for the very first time, he could not have imagined that his modest dream to bring renowned entertainers and films to his community would persist for over a century. Through two World Wars, countless technological changes, two pandemics, and the loss of Phoenix Steel Company, Brownback’s theatre continues to glow.
His investment has enlivened the lives of hundreds of thousands with film and the performing arts – but not without the added generosity, passion, and commitment from similarly visionary patrons.
What Legacy will you leave?
Like Harry, you’re forward-thinking, passionate about the Colonial Theatre, and music, film, and performance are essential to your life. You share the Colonial’s values and vision. Perhaps you never miss a new movie, have celebrated a major milestone at the theater or have been a member for as long as you can remember. The Colonial is an essential character in your life’s story and you’ve played a role in its history, too.
Planned Gifts to the Colonial Theatre are an opportunity to share your love of the arts: to transmit your values to future generations. They ensure another century of artistic expression at the historic venue. But for investments like the ones you make, the Colonial could not exist.
Join the Colonial’s Legacy Society
Legacy Society members are supporters who have made future financial commitments to ensure that, long into the future, the Colonial has the resources required to maintain its considerable facilities and offer exciting programs. This special group of donors include the Colonial Theatre in their estate plans. They are honored at Legacy Society events and with perpetual recognition in the annual report and all donor recognition materials.
It’s easy to join since no immediate donation is needed. You simply need to name the Colonial Theatre as a beneficiary in your will or trust, IRA or other retirement plan.
Your commitment can be anonymous. Or, with your permission, the theatre can publicly acknowledge your future gift. This can be an inducement to others to give generously.
Adding a simple bequest to your will is an easy way to become a Legacy Society member.
Sample bequest language:
“I bequeath ____% of my residuary estate (or $___________) to Association for the Colonial Theatre (ACT), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable cultural organization, located in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, for its ongoing film, live arts, and special programming. Federal Tax I.D. number: 23-2846336.”
