Intimate Concerts: Black Voices, Black Verse

Forever Changes & The Colonial Present

About

An evening of rap and prose, featuring Ephraim Nehemiah, Jayla Powers, Anthony C & Frostbyt3.

Ephraim Nehemiah

The work of Ephraim Nehemiah sings to the spirit. It is limitless, in its ability to provoke emotion. To seek out the perfect image, to seek out the right narrative to honor both the dead and the living.  A published writer, educator, and nationally touring performer. Their work sits comfortably in the Black cultural lineage of griots who are dedicated to using truth to document and critique the world around them. Ephraim holds a B.A. in Pan-African Studies from Kent State University where they were awarded the Undergraduate Poetry Prize and Maggie Anderson Scholarship. Ephraim is currently based out of Baltimore, MD where they serve as a Teaching Artist with DewMore Baltimore. Their first full-length poetry book The Autobiography of Absence was published in 2021 with Twelve Arts Press.

Miss Spoken Poet

Jayla Powers, a rising spoken word artist based in Maryland, discovered her profound love for writing early on but ventured into performing towards the end of 2022. In just her first year on stage, she has won two poetry slam competitions at the renowned Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York City and featured at numerous venues in the DMV and Philly area.

With a style that is passionate, vulnerable, and heart-touching, Miss Spoken Poet aims to weave words that resonate deeply with her audience. Her inspiration stems from a sincere desire to inspire others, offering words as a source of encouragement and healing. Through her poetry, she seeks to mend the wounds of others and reconnect with her inner child. Anticipate the release of her first published poetry book in the Summer of 2023, a collection that promises to evoke emotions and spark introspection.

Anthony C

Anthony C is a music producer, engineer, songwriter, rapper, and singer. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and moved to the burbs of Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He started producing music at the age of 14. He graduated from Montgomery County Community College in 2022 with a degree in Sound Recording and Music Technology. He started releasing music in 2019 with his first album “Genesis” and his second album “PANDEMIC” in 2020 speaking on the social issues and experiences of that period, experimenting in 8 genres with 8 songs. In 2022, he released my third album “Therapy In My Expression” which speaks on heartache, mental health, and self growth. Although he is still just starting in the industry, he hopes his music can leave an impact and that his art can reach out and help people in need.

Frostbyt3

John Coleman, also known as Frostbyt3 (pronounced “frostbite”), is a producer, rapper, DJ, singer, and songwriter born and raised in Norristown, Pennsylvania. John loves taking his optimistic nature and throwing his positive vibes into the songs he creates. Starting out on Soundcloud and experimenting with music production software, he quickly became interested in producing music as well as writing his own songs. His most recent work showcases these talents, as the albums were written, recorded, produced, engineered, and released all from his room. Frostbyt3 always has interesting ways of putting songs together by working with artists he feels are as unique and creative as he is. From releasing a handful of projects on various streaming platforms, he feels like thinking “outside the box” in anything is the best way to get ideas out. Frostbyt3 is all about changing up his sound, and as an artist, he wants his fanbase to grow with him as he does musically.
