About
What lengths would you go to in the fight against tyranny?
Joseph Addison’s 1713 play Cato, a Tragedy dramatizes the final days of Roman Senator Marcus Porcius Cato, who famously chose death over surrendering to Julius Caesar’s tyranny in 46 BCE. The play highlights his dedication to virtue, liberty, and the ultimate sacrifice for his ideals.
Renowned as George Washington’s favorite play, America’s first president had a production of Cato performed by soldiers stationed at Valley Forge during the founding of the United States. This reading will be in commemoration of America 250, and is graciously sponsored by the Chester County Community Foundation as a part of their America 250 celebration.
