About
“Nights of Cabiria is transitional; it points toward the visual freedom of La Dolce Vita while still remaining attentive to the real world of postwar Rome…As artificial as Cabiria’s behavior sometimes seems, it always seems her own, and this little woman carries herself proudly through the gutters of Rome.” — Roger Ebert
SYNOPSIS
Among his most emotionally piercing works, Italian maestro Federico Fellini’s 1957 post-neorealist melodrama follows Cabiria (Giulietta Masina), a fiercely resilient Roman sex worker whose stubborn hope repeatedly collides with betrayal, humiliation, and fleeting glimpses of grace. Emerging from Fellini’s roots in Italian Neorealism while gesturing toward the phantasmagoric humanism of his later cinema, Nights of Cabiria moves through nightclubs, religious spectacles, and the margins of postwar Rome, where ruins and neglected outskirts recur as a quiet iconography of spiritual and social precarity, balancing grit with tenderness. Anchored by Masina’s extraordinary blend of comic defiance and aching vulnerability, it becomes a portrait of spiritual endurance in a world that continually tests it. Experience this indelible masterpiece like never before in a gorgeous 4K restoration.
