SYNOPSIS

Originally conceived under the title Goblins, this in-name-only sequel from Italian exploitation veterans Claudio Fragasso and Joe D’Amato has achieved immortality as one of the ultimate late-night cult movies. When an unsuspecting family vacations in the remote town of Nilbog (yes, that’s “Goblin” spelled backward), they discover its seemingly friendly residents are flesh-eating goblins determined to transform humans into plants before devouring them. Purportedly intended as a cautionary tale about the dangers of vegetarianism, Troll 2 lurches from one gloriously baffling set piece to the next, fueled by earnest performances (including a truly unforgettable turn by Deborah Reed as the witchy Creedence Leonore Gielgud), deliriously nonsensical dialogue, and filmmaking decisions that defy all conventional logic. Whether experienced as outsider art, accidental surrealism, or pure midnight-movie delirium, Troll 2 has earned its unlikely place among the most beloved cult films ever made.
