Pixar journeys into the Land of the Dead with this vibrant, deeply felt celebration of family, memory, and Mexico’s Día de Muertos traditions. Aspiring musician Miguel dreams of following in the footsteps of his idol Ernesto de la Cruz, despite his family’s generations-old prohibition against music, but an unexpected journey on the Day of the Dead brings him face-to-face with the ancestors (and secrets) that shaped his family. Directed by Lee Unkrich, Coco fills its dazzling afterlife with riotous color, infectious music, and extraordinary visual detail while grounding its fantasy in an intimate story about the bonds connecting one generation to the next. Joyous, bittersweet, and ultimately life-affirming, Coco reminds us that those we love remain with us for as long as their stories are remembered.
