Meet the Filmmaker
Darlene is a Philadelphia-based actress, writer, and director. She has worked on films and theatre for nearly 15 years. Her experience is robust with directing for the theatre, costume design, set design, production assistant, camera assistant, skit writing, teaching, and her one true love- acting! Empty Pockets is her first directorial debut in the film industry. Darlene is exceptionally passionate about creating films that will relate to others on a deep level. Empty Pockets is a piece about friendship and the heartbreaks that come along with it. Obsessed with the concept of phileo love, she wrote a piece that could be relatable to those who were going through the loss of that love– the loss of a friend. Which can sometimes be as heartbreaking, if not more, than a romantic relationship. Whether they drift away slowly, abruptly end with a fight, or are still there lingering but are not quite the same as they were in their prime, we have all in some way experienced this feeling and heartbreak of a loss of a love that was once there. This piece was inspired by films such as Beaches, Fried Green Tomatoes, A Ghost Story, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and even the hit TV show, The Hills. Ever growing in the art, she is excited to learn more and more and perfect her skills to make great and relatable art for people to enjoy. There is a love that runs deep within her for film. Her skills, eagerness, and dedication make her art burst with passion and heart.
