SYNOPSIS

Director Jane Schoenbrun follows We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow with another audacious exploration of the strange, porous boundary between the media we consume and the lives we build around it. Hannah Einbinder stars as Kris Williams, a young independent filmmaker hired to reboot Camp Miasma, a notorious 1980s slasher franchise that has obsessed her since childhood. Her research leads her to Billy Presley (Gillian Anderson), the reclusive former actress whose performance in the original movie has haunted Kris for decades, and whose memories begin to complicate everything Kris thought she understood about the movies she loves. Moving between slasher pastiche, psychosexual drama, and films-within-the-film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma turns the familiar legacy-sequel premise inside out to interrogate fandom, authorship, desire, and the intimate relationship between artist and audience.
