Science on Screen®: Autopsy of a Forensic Pathologist


How are autopsies performed? How does the work of a forensic pathologist help reveal the identity of the unidentified (John and Jane Doe)? Dr. Hannah Kastenbaum, City of Philadelphia Associate Medical Examiner, tells all in our final Science on Screen® event of the year.

Screening of The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)  on Sunday, July 11th at 4:00 pm in the 1903 Theatre followed by an in-person presentation by the speaker.

Dr. Hannah Kastenbaum is Associate Medical Examiner in the City of Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office since 2019. She previously spent seven years as both Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of New Mexico and Medical Investigator in the New Mexico State Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI). Dr. Kastenbaum completed a one-year fellowship in Forensic Pathology at the University of New Mexico; attended Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine; and completed her pathology residency at the University of Pittsburgh. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester. Originally from Reading, PA, she’s an avid reader, traveler, foodie, crocheter, and supporter of the arts.


Science on Screen ® is a grant-funded program that pairs film screenings with presentations by notable speakers in the field of STEM. The Colonial Theatre has participated in this program for 5 consecutive years.

Science on Screen® is an initiative of the COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE, with major support from the ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION.


A father and son, both coroners, are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the body of a young woman, who was apparently harboring dark secrets.

This is the only presentation of The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016).
