Brian’s Song (1971)
About
“On its own, somewhat obvious level, Brian’s Song worked. Not least in its favor were two exceptionally fine performances: James Caan as Brian Piccolo and Billy Dee Williams as Gale Sayers.” – New York Times
In the mid-1960s, a time when professional football still had elements of racial segregation, two competitive Chicago Bears rookies become interracial roommates. Brian Piccolo (James Caan) and Gale Sayers (Billy Dee Williams) develop a growing friendship, as do their wives, Joy (Shelley Fabares) and Linda (Judy Pace). The teammates become a symbol of harmony during the tumultuous civil rights era, and their bond grows stronger when Piccolo receives some unexpected and shattering news.
