About
“For my money, still the best Bond, with a screwball plotline that keeps the locales changing and the surprises coming—even when reason dictates that the picture should be over. Lotte Lenya and Robert Shaw make a creepy pair, and Daniela Bianchi embodies the essence of centerfold sex, circa 1964.” — Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader
SYNOPSIS
Widely regarded as the film that perfected the Bond formula, From Russia with Love finds Sean Connery’s 007 dispatched into a web of Cold War intrigue, double-crosses, and international espionage after a Soviet cipher clerk offers to defect to the West. Trading some of the outlandish gadgetry of later entries for taut suspense and bruising action, the series’ second installment remains one of its leanest and most elegantly constructed adventures. From its unforgettable Orient Express showdown between Connery and Robert Shaw to its air of effortless glamour and erotic intrigue, From Russia with Love captures the franchise at its most seductive…and for many, its very best.
