Airplane! (1980)
About
“The spoof that launched a thousand parodies — this is the one that’s 100% funny.” — Marjorie Baumgarten, Austin Chronicle
SYNOPSIS
Few comedies have entered the cultural bloodstream quite like Airplane!. The breakthrough feature from Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker gleefully hijacks the disaster-movie craze of the 1970s, following a traumatized ex-fighter pilot (Robert Hays) forced to land a passenger jet after food poisoning incapacitates the crew. Packed with visual gags, verbal absurdities, and one-liners delivered with unwavering sincerity, Airplane! helped redefine American screen comedy for a generation. Surely one of the funniest movies ever made—and don’t call me Shirley.
