Elf (2003)

Friday November 27th – Sunday, November 29th

BUY TICKETS

Christmas cheer collides with New York cynicism in Jon Favreau’s Elf, an exuberant holiday comedy built around Will Ferrell’s inspired commitment to wide-eyed innocence. Raised at the North Pole after accidentally crawling into Santa’s sack as a baby, Buddy grows up believing himself to be an elf despite several increasingly obvious indications to the contrary. Upon learning the truth, he journeys to Manhattan in search of his biological father (James Caan), a hard-edged children’s-book publisher with little patience for either Christmas spirit or the six-foot man in green tights suddenly calling him Dad.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Sponsored by The Fabius Family

Screenings throughout December!

Charles Dickens meets Kermit, Gonzo, and Miss Piggy in Brian Henson’s enormously charming The Muppet Christmas Carol, a holiday favorite that manages to be both unmistakably Muppet and surprisingly faithful to the spirit of its literary source. Few adaptations so effortlessly reconcile Dickens’s ghosts, poverty, and moral seriousness with singing vegetables and wisecracking rats, making The Muppet Christmas Carol an enduring testament to the Muppets’ peculiar gift for finding sincerity in silliness.

Christmas becomes a battleground of booby traps, bruised egos, and spectacular bodily punishment in Chris Columbus’s Home Alone, the irresistible holiday comedy that made Macaulay Culkin a household name. Accidentally abandoned when his enormous family departs for Paris, eight-year-old Kevin McCallister (Culkin) initially revels in his newfound independence, indulging in forbidden pleasures and enjoying the run of the house without parental supervision. But when two bumbling burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) target the seemingly deserted residence, Kevin turns his suburban home into an elaborate gauntlet of improvised weapons, ingenious traps, and increasingly outrageous slapstick violence.

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

Sponsored by Century 21 Norris- Valley Forge

One of Hollywood’s most beloved holiday traditions is also one of its darkest portraits of disappointment, despair, and the distance between the life we imagine and the one we actually live. James Stewart gives one of his defining performances as George Bailey, a decent, ambitious man whose dreams of escaping Bedford Falls have been repeatedly deferred by responsibility to his family and community. When financial catastrophe pushes him to the brink on Christmas Eve, the intervention of an unlikely guardian angel allows George to glimpse what the world might have looked like without him.

Die Hard (1988)

35 MM Screening courtesy of Exhumed Films

Wednesday, December 23rd

Christmas Eve becomes an explosive battle for survival in John McTiernan’s Die Hard, a masterclass in action filmmaking that helped redefine the Hollywood blockbuster. Bruce Willis stars as John McClane, a wisecracking New York cop visiting Los Angeles to reconcile with his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia), only to find himself trapped inside a skyscraper seized by a heavily armed gang led by the impeccably sinister Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman). Barefoot, outnumbered, and armed with little more than his wits and an increasingly battered body, McClane must navigate the building’s elevator shafts, ventilation ducts, and unfinished floors while outmaneuvering both his adversaries and the authorities outside.
