Hocus Pocus (1993)
About
“Silly but irresistible.” – Philadelphia Inquirer
SYNOPSIS
Three centuries after their execution in colonial Salem, the Sanderson Sisters return from the grave in Kenny Ortega’s irresistibly playful supernatural comedy…and have since become unlikely Halloween royalty themselves. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy star as the trio of witches, accidentally resurrected by skeptical teenager Max Dennison on Halloween night, leaving Max, his younger sister Dani, and classmate Allison to stop them before they can secure their return for good. Mixing witchcraft, slapstick, musical showmanship, and just enough macabre humor to give its family-friendly adventure a mischievous edge, Hocus Pocus owes much of its enduring appeal to the exuberant chemistry of its three stars. Initially a modest success upon its unusual summertime release in 1993, it has since enjoyed a remarkable second life as a perennial Halloween favorite, returning each October like the Sanderson Sisters themselves.
